Pre-Wedding

From the Botanic Gardens to a Tiong Bahru side street — ten Singapore locations worth considering for your pre-wedding shoot, and what each one gives your photographs.
Choosing the right location for your pre-wedding photography is about much more than finding somewhere beautiful. The location becomes part of your story. It influences the colours, mood, light and overall feeling of your photographs.
Some couples feel most like themselves surrounded by greenery, while others love architecture, city lights or the simplicity of the sea. After photographing weddings and couples for many years, I always encourage couples to choose a location that feels like them, rather than simply choosing somewhere because it is popular.
1. Singapore Botanic Gardens
For couples who love soft, romantic and natural photographs, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is difficult to beat. The lush greenery, beautiful pathways and open spaces create an effortless backdrop without distracting from the couple.
Best for: Romantic, natural and timeless photography.
Photographer’s tip: Early morning generally offers softer light, cooler temperatures and fewer visitors. Always check the latest venue and photography guidelines before planning a larger or more elaborate shoot.
2. Marina Bay
Marina Bay is perfect if you want photographs that immediately feel like Singapore. The skyline, waterfront and modern architecture create a sophisticated look that works beautifully for both daytime and evening portraits.
Best for: Modern, elegant and editorial photographs.
3. National Gallery Singapore & Civic District
The grand architecture around the Civic District creates a completely different atmosphere. Columns, stone walls, staircases and symmetrical architecture can produce photographs that feel almost European.
Best for: Editorial, luxury and fine-art-inspired photography.
Planning note: National Gallery Singapore has specific wedding photoshoot booking slots, fees and guidelines, so check current requirements before your session.
4. Fort Canning
Fort Canning combines greenery, heritage architecture and beautiful natural light. It works particularly well for couples who want something romantic without travelling too far away from the city.
Best for: Romantic, heritage and natural photographs.
5. East Coast Park
Sometimes simplicity creates the most beautiful photographs. The beach, open sky and movement of the sea allow photographs to feel relaxed and intimate. Rather than posing constantly, I often encourage couples to walk, talk and interact naturally.
Best for: Relaxed, candid and romantic photography.
6. Joo Chiat & Katong
Colourful shophouses and Peranakan architecture give this area a wonderful Singapore identity. It is particularly beautiful for couples who want something playful, colourful and culturally distinctive.
Best for: Heritage, colourful and lifestyle photography.
7. Tiong Bahru
Tiong Bahru offers a quieter, more understated aesthetic. Its Art Deco architecture, neighbourhood streets and cafés work beautifully for couples who want their pre-wedding photographs to feel more like a lifestyle story.
Best for: Casual, modern and documentary-style photographs.
8. Gardens by the Bay
For something dramatic and distinctly Singaporean, Gardens by the Bay offers futuristic architecture alongside greenery and waterfront views.
Best for: Contemporary, dramatic and destination-style imagery.
9. Sentosa
Sentosa gives couples several possibilities within one area — from beaches and greenery to elegant hotel architecture. Sunset sessions can be particularly beautiful.
Best for: Destination-inspired, romantic and relaxed photographs.
10. Your Own Meaningful Place
One of my favourite locations isn’t necessarily a famous landmark. It could be where you first met, your favourite café, your neighbourhood, your home, or somewhere you regularly spend weekends together.
Years later, these photographs can become incredibly meaningful because they document not only what you looked like, but what your life together actually felt like at that moment.
A photographer’s note. The best pre-wedding photographs don’t necessarily come from the most impressive location. They come from a combination of beautiful light, thoughtful composition and genuine connection. Choose somewhere that allows you to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
Once you have a location in mind, the next decision is who photographs it — I have written a guide on how to choose a wedding photographer in Singapore to help.
